Tax Returns

Tax Returns

Tax Returns are filed with HMRC every year to show a company’s financial records, such as income and expenses, and they are used to calculate the amount of tax that they owe. Businesses have 12 months from the end of the accounting year to submit their tax return.

Depending on the size and structure of your business, you need to submit a specific amount of information to HMRC.

High net worth individuals may also require a tax return if they have rental properties or several sources of income. It is crucial that tax planning is considered for these individuals to mitigate their tax liability across all assets.

Sole Traders

Sole Traders are required to submit a self-assessment tax return.

Partnerships are required to submit a partnership tax return, and each partner must also submit a self-assessment tax return.

Limited Companies

Limited Companies are required to submit an annual return, CT600 company accounts, and directors are all required to complete a self-assessment tax return.

Jonathan Short

Jonathan Short is an Associate and the Head of Compliance for DH&Co, he has worked with the firm for over 23 years and therefore has a wealth of industry experience.

Jonathan graduated from Heriot Watt University with a HND in Business Studies, had a brief spell with HM Revenue & Customs and started as a tax junior with DH&Co. He worked his way up to managing the tax compliance team at Douglas Home for 10 years before being promoted to an Associate.

When asked what he specialises in Jonathan usually says, ‘Tax and Tennis’ with tennis being his main interest outside the office. Tax is certainly a strong point as his first 20 years with DH&Co were in the tax compliance department. He now oversees all compliance work and in the last year has been training the apprentices. Jonathan believes that it is the amount of added services we provide, and the quality of the service given that makes DH&Co stand out from other accountancy firms.

The team are only a phone call away and are always easy to access if we have a question or need some advice. The personal service Douglas Home & Company provide really stands out.”
