Douglas Home & Company Welcomes New Trainees After School Talent Search

We are delighted to welcome three new trainee members of staff to our Kelso office. This trainee-ship is a brand-new initiative for Douglas Home & Company and as a leading financial firm our aim is to nurture young talented individuals who have an interest in working within the industry. The trainee-ship will see our three new recruits spend time working in a variety of disciplines within the company over the next 12 months, varying from tax returns to bookkeeping, all to give them a flavour of working in the industry while gaining invaluable experience.

We have welcomed two recent leavers of nearby Jedburgh Grammar School, Robbie Anderson (17) and Jody Cree (16), who we had the opportunity to meet when we attended careers fairs put on by high schools in the local Borders area. They then both saw the opportunity to work for us advertised on social media and jumped at the chance to apply their first ‘proper job’ since leaving school.

Robbie explained his interest in the role, saying, “I’ve always been interested in working with numbers and I’d heard good things about the company, so I knew this was the opportunity I was looking for. I live on a farm too which means I have a good understanding of a lot of our rural clients which is a bonus.”

Jody also added, “There’s a history of accountants in my family and my best subject at school was Accountancy and Finance so it’s no surprise that this trainee-ship felt like a great fit for me. I know Douglas Home & Company has a great reputation as well which made the decision to apply easy.”

Our third new addition to the team is Rebecca Johnston (20), Rebecca joins us after working in an administrator role for four years. Despite not actively looking for a new job she came across the opportunity to work with us and decided it was too good to miss, explaining, “The opportunity to train in several areas and to do it with a professional company like this really appealed to me. I don’t know which area I’m going to enjoy most yet, but that’s why it’s so good being able to try so many different things. It keeps things interesting!”

After having a month to settle in to their roles all three agree that the experience has been a good one with Jody commenting, “I’ve really enjoyed the work so far and everyone has been so welcoming.”

Our Manager Director, Alan Dummond is “delighted to have welcomed Rebecca, Jody and Robbie to our Kelso office. This is a great way for Douglas Home & Company to introduce new people to the company and give them the opportunity to learn about a career in the financial services industry. Our people are our greatest asset and providing opportunities to those at entry-level is a fantastic way to nurture new talent.”
