Thomson Gray is an independent property construction consultancy providing a range of services to its clients across the property and construction industry. With headquarters in Edinburgh, and offices spanning the length and breadth of Scotland, Thomson Gray works with many public and private sector clients from the NHS to Cala Homes.
As an organisation with a reputation for providing a trusted professional service, Thomson Gray were looking for similar values in their Chartered Accountants and Tax Advisors to fulfil their financial business needs. They found it in Douglas & Home & Company, who have a strong track record of working with clients in the construction industry.
In 2017, Thomson Gray recruited Douglas Home & Company because of their can-do approach to business and tax advisory services as well as their similar focus on client services. “We are really enjoying working with the team at Douglas Home & Company”, said Stuart Gray, Managing Director of Thomson Gray. “Their professionalism and proactive approach to providing a wide range of financial services has already enabled us to work more efficiently streamlining some of our internal processes.”
“We asked them to carry out an overall review of our systems and processes and come back to us with suggestions on what we could do better,” Stuart continued. “They came back with a lot of ideas. For example, we were using Sage purely for invoicing but not for management accounting. By introducing this change, we haven’t been doubling up work as much which has been really beneficial.”
As well as taking care of Payroll, VAT returns and end-of-year accounts, the team from Douglas Home & Company have been there for Stuart and his team to offer business advice and listen. “They will tell us what works but have also identified where we could work even better which has been excellent,” Stuart added. “You don’t expect accountants to be so lateral in their approach, so we have welcomed their expertise on a business as well as financial level.”
